At the age of 6 Edward (ED) Elric, and his 5 year old brother Alphonse (AL), had already become promising alchemists. There father left them and their mother when they were younger, to do alchemy research. Ed highly resents his father for that as he has never returned. Ed and Al's mother fell ill and died shortly later. And although sending leters to their father at all the addresses he had sent letters from in the past, Ed and Al never hurd from their father nor did he return for their mother's funeral. Ed and Al turn to alchemt to bring there mother back (restoring human life with alchemy had never been done). They try'd however and were unsuccsesfull, it cost Ed one of his arms, and one of his legs, they were later replased with mechanical limbs. And it cost Al his whole body, but Ed fuzed has soul into a suit of armor befor it was lost forever. It was a mirrical thet they had even servived. This cought the attenssion of the miltary, they wanted to make Ed a state alchemist. So after Ed and Al recovered they set off to become state alchemist in an atemp to gain resourses which would alow them to bring their mother back, and restore their bodys.
